About Our Technicians

Steve Hornback, CDT

Steve is a licensed Certified Dental Lab Technician with over 35 years of dental lab experience. Steve received his training in the army and has owned and operated Artech Dental Ceramics for the last 20 years. Prior to opening his own lab, Steve worked for a mid-sized dental lab in Tucson, AZ for 12 years.

Steve has attended many continuing education lectures and hands-on courses, including courses with Lee Culp and Claude Sieber.

Artech has had as many as eight employees working at one time, but Steve felt that he could best control the quality of his product by downsizing. Now the lab operates with three employees, Steve, his son Ray, and wife, Marie, who is primarily engaged in office duties.

Steve is also an accomplished woodworker. He enjoys building furniture, cabinetry and has recently begun building acoustic guitars. Steve also enjoys the outdoors.

Ray Hornback

Ray has been working at Artech in one way or another since he was about seven years old. However, for the past seven years, since graduating high school, he has been employed full time as a technician.

Ray has been trained in all areas of the dental lab. He has been mentored one-on-one by Steve. His artistic aptitude is easily recognized by his ability to create aesthetically-pleasing restorations. He even was asked to put the outline of the African continent on a tooth for a patient. Ray attends seminars and hands-on classes to continue the advancement of his technical skills.

Ray is a drummer and also enjoys pencil sketching and working with acrylics.
